The King & Queen of Nowhere

Ed Castro While I love the lo-fi, Triphop sound of Corduroy and Aftermath, there's just so much more to find in this mighty castle of sound. Such as, the bittersweet vibe of Judge, the melancholy of Say My Name, the catchy and hypnotic elements of Paste. If relentless melancholia drenched in shades of beautiful darkness is what you're looking for in music, then "The King and Queen of Nowhere" will not only satiate your thirst, but it will also grab a hold of you. Everyone!...hail the queen of Somewhere! Favorite track: Corduroy (Little Sister).

Little sister took a ride today With a boy who looked like corduroy Velvet eyes and a wide wale smile He felt like comfort He felt like ice cream He felt like something She’d never seen Little sister kissed a boy today Driving through a painted tunnel Radio playing angel choirs With sounds like ice cream And diamond rings Sounds like redemption When they sing Little sister watched the lights fly by Leaving trails of blue fire Stood with him on the overpass Yesterday was What used to be Tomorrow will come On the heels of dreams Little sister is moving on from here Wearing a coat that’s familiar Reminds her of his corduroy smile That felt like comfort That felt like ice cream That felt like something She’d never seen

Judge 04:57
If I came to your heart And knocked with velvet glove Would you hear me would you see me Would you let me stay? I’ll throw myself In the arena To see What the coliseum thinks Stand in front Of the holy emperor And his crown of golden leaves Wave his hand And release the lion Devour me Or set me free And love Is a fickle mistress She plays With loaded dice she scrapes The boots of noblemen To feed The bitter youth To feed The bitter youth To feed The bitter youth
3.
Say My Name 05:53
I want to hear you say my name It falls so softly from your mouth Tumbling blindly past your lips A thousand fireflies light up the sky Mmmmmm I want to hear you say my name My ears my mind my soul tremble in your breath Heart in my throat sewn to my sleeve Wrap me in the sound hold me 'til I drown Mmmmmm I want to hear you Say my name Gentle as the night Creeping softly Through the trees Tiptoe to my heart Moving in the dark Say My Name
4.
Fragile 05:30
When will I learn to just let it be Not to wear a fragile heart on my sleeve When will you see how good that we could be We could fly if only you would set us free But it’s on my own Here I stand All alone Once again Is it me? Or is it just circumstance? Am I cursed to never really have that chance? Is it you? Are you just collecting names? Will you call when you feel like playing games? But when I Woke up This Morning You were gone But you said you would be the one that stays And you swore you’d never take your love away So I thought that you would keep me close and safe And that you would always be my saving grace But when I Woke up This morning You were gone On my own Here I stand All alone Once again

Grace 05:26
Watching you from far away How long can I stand Never holding close to me Like I haven't any hands Sometimes I hear you're falling And it's all that I can bear I can't reach out to catch you When I can't be there Everything that's mine The mundane and sublime There's always something missing That dream I'll never find There's no rhyme without a reason No reason without rhyme And I settle into distance Making peace with time When my world is full When my heart is lonely It's you that I turn to It's you and always only It's you and always only It's you and always only....
6.
Butterfly 04:17
Butterfly wings in Africa Sent me her rain of dreams But something stopped her silent Somewhere in between And I never got the message So I found another rain I heard a different story And I'll never be the same We walk on wires We talk on strings We part the waters For lesser things
7.
Paste 05:14
I know you think I'm Nothing but paste and glitter Like I’m stuck together with rainbows And fairy wings And that nothing you say Could tear me in two But it isn't true if not for you What would I do? You want to see me With dewdrops in my eyes Remember me Under Vaseline skies And you think I’m playing dolls With dresses and sighs When really what I'm playing at Is needles and knives You want me to be What you think you see You forget who I am you forget what I want You forget I am me Below inside and deep within There are things in me that kill Below inside and deep within There are things in me that will Things that burn and things that bite And things that catch and claw And it's only how you see me That I'm even here at all Yeah, there are things that burn and things that bite And things that catch and claw And it's only how you see me That I'm even here at all Below inside and deep within There are things in me that kill Below inside and deep within There are things in me that will

Not everyone Will fit in with ease But everyone wants What everyone needs Some people have More than their fair share Throw one away Pick up a spare Everyone wants What everyone needs Everyone wants What everyone needs She was all that he had She was all he would know The only seed That he'd ever grow
9.
Aftermath 03:18
Who am I... Without you? Don't go before I've had the chance to tell you Don't let them take you away Don't leave me till I find the words to say There's so much left for me to tell you There so much more I have to say So many things I want to do with you Who am I... Without you?

When did we become The King and Queen of Nowhere The moon looking down Veiled in a scratchy dreams The King and Queen of Not Much Smoke and Mirrors, maybe Our robes worn down to threads And splitting at the seams But we used to be We used to be The King and Queen of Everything we See We used to be We used to be The King and Queen of Love When you were Prince of Fire And I had the world at my feet Unfurling, Spinning Glory Set us in her sight She promised us forever Promised Paradise Now she laughs at our folly Proud of all her lies But we used to be We used to be The King and Queen of Everything we See We used to be We used to be The King and Queen of Love

about

This album is the direct result of a lifetime of listening to alternative/odd/little known/dark & arty music, 15 years of software learning curves, an abundance of classical voice training, way too many horrible adolescent poems and the incredibly full, bizarre, desperate and sweet life that I get to call my own.

"The King & Queen of Nowhere" was made entirely with Propellerhead Reason.
